Artistic Director

Lisa D. Springer received her education at Heidelberg University and The Cleveland Institute of Music. As a mezzo-soprano, she has enjoyed solo performances with The Pittsburgh Opera Theater, sharing the stage with Placido Domingo; The Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall, Blossom Music Center, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall; The Cleveland Opera Company, Robert Page Singers, The Cleveland Fine Arts Program and The Lancaster Festival Orchestra. She has appeared as a member of The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, Blossom Music Center Chorus, Cleveland Opera Chorus, Cincinnati Opera Chorus, Cantari Singers of Columbus, and The Lancaster Chorale. She performed for ten years as a member of St. Joseph Cathedral Choir and is a past member of the Temple Israel Choir. In addition to her position as Artistic Director of The Columbus Women's Chorus, her choral conducting experiences include sixteen years as Director of Vocal Music at The Wellington School, Assistant Director of The Columbus International Children's Choir, and past Director of Vocal Music at Lancaster High School. Additionally, she served as co-director of the Lancaster-Fairfield Youth Choir. Choirs under her direction have performed internationally in Belgium, The Netherlands, Italy, and South Africa, in addition to New York City, Chicago, LA, Detroit, Cincinnati and Washington, DC. She is a member of The American Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, and Chorus America. She is currently enjoying her work at Stanton’s Sheet Music and is the proud mother of two children and two grandchildren.

Sheena Phillips is a choral director and composer and is delighted to be back in Columbus and involved with the Columbus Women’s Chorus again after an absence of 11 years. Raised in London, Sheena studied math at Cambridge University and worked for British disarmament and environmental NGOs before developing a career in music. In addition to her previous work as Artistic Director, composer, arranger, and accompanist with CWC, she has directed and written music for community, church and college choirs of many shapes and sizes in Cambridge, Edinburgh, London, and Columbus – including the Belsize Community Choir, the Magpie Consort, and Rudsambee Company of Singers.
Sheena’s compositions and arrangements are widely performed and many of them have been published. She studied composition with Emily Doolittle and is actively involved in the British organization CoMA (Contemporary Music for All).
